I’m something of a late bloomer. I had two previous careers before starting Marc Zeitschik Art. The first was as a professor of sociology and anthropology. Teaching eventually led me to the world of academic publishing and, somehow, into archival preservation. I eventually started my own business providing products and services to libraries and archives, both in the US and abroad. As much as I enjoyed the work, it was merely my day job. On weekends I visited the museums and galleries. At night I took classes in Modern and Contemporary Art at MoMA and completed NYU’s Certificate Program in Art Collection Management and Display. I became a docent at The Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art. I also began merging my expertise in preservation with my love for art, working with fellow collectors on managing their collections and other areas of art-advisement. And, finally, my passion for art led me to change careers again in order to be involved with art full-time. My day job is now what I love the most—contemporary art, the people who create it and the people who share my passion for it. Whether it’s as a docent helping museum goers better appreciate a particular exhibition, a tour guide making the contemporary art scenes in Chelsea and The Lower East Side more understandable and less threatening to the un-initiated, a lecturer shedding light on the history of modern and contemporary art in America or a dealer, bringing the work of emerging artists to the attention of the art-loving public—this is Marc Zeitschik Art.
