Jo-Ann Brody

Born February 1945 in Manhattan.
Studied Reed College and the Portland (Or) Museum Art School.
Works in Peekskill NY lives in Crompond NY.

Brody exhibits her work at Ceres Gallery in Chelsea. Most recently she exhibited Scar Tissue there. She has shows with Hullabaloo Collective at Fountain Fair for 3 years. Her books in clay were in several years-long traveling exhibitions. Brody makes an installation at Collaborative Concepts, the Farm Project, Garrison NY every year and presented her work in Peekskill Project 2005 and 2007. She shows extensively in Westchester. In 2000 she went on an arts exchange/residency to Kyoto Japan.

Brody’s work is figurative, feminist, and Cycladic. The work is abstracted and distorted into secondary imagery. Recurring themes are fertility and the dance of life. Woman is egg, tree of life, bird woman, dancer. The art is based on her narratives and experiences.
Brody works in clay and cement.
