Twelve members of the Art Center of Northern New Jersey drove into the City in three cars, parked at various lots and met me in front of the Y Gallery on Orchard Street at 11 in the morning this past Thursday. A few had time to stop for coffee along the way. A couple just made it on time. For the next two hours we walked the streets—Orchard, Broome, Delancey, Grand. We visited five galleries where two owners, two directors and one artist described, explained and de-mystified not only the art work that they so well understood and loved but the art world that these visitors had just entered, many of them for the first time.
